We arrived in Moab, Utah in darkness. Without the benefit of daylight, I was oblivious to what I would wake up to the next day. I just knew that Moab was special. Having been to Sedona, Arizona several times, I tend to use that as my spiritual benchmark for the Southwest. The following day would prove that Arches National Park outside of Moab would be much more powerful for me.
The park is home to the world’s greatest concentration of natural sandstone arches. There are also towering fins and spires that from certain vantage points, and under certain early winter twilight, can resemble an eerie Gotham like skyline. In daylight, however, these windblown sculptures emanate a strong, loving energy. Experiencing them is magic and inspires awe. Then there are the balanced rocks, seemingly over-sized and overly hefty in proportion to the rock supporting them underneath. At the end of the day, it was Delicate Arch that had the biggest impact on me.
